Location
The 6th International Conference on Enterococci (or ICE-6, in short) will bring together the Enterococcus research community for the first time since ICE-5 in 2018.
ICE-6 will be hosted by the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Porto. The conference venue will be at R. Jorge de Viterbo Ferreira 228, 4050-313 Porto, Portugal and will run from noon on Mon 11 September to the early evening of Thu 14 September.
Porto is one of the oldest European cities, with archaeological evidence showing inhabitation since the 8th century BC. Porto's centre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the city is famous for its cuisine and wines. Porto's climate is mild with average highs in September at 24°C, but with some chance of cooler temperatures and rain due to the close proximity to the Atlantic Ocean.
Accommodation
Porto has a wide range of hotels which caters to all tastes and budgets. ICE-6 does not organise accommodation so we recommend you use websites like airbnb.com, expedia.com or booking.com to book a hotel or apartment. We recommend you book early to avoid disappointment.
Transport
Porto has an international airport (Aeroporto Francisco Sá Carneiro; OPO), which is located 12 km south-west of the city. Many airlines operate direct flights to Porto Airport. It may also be an option for you to fly to Lisbon International Airport (which has more flights to Asia and the Americas) but please note that you will then need to travel 300 km (3-4 h) by car or public transport to Porto.
Besides taxi services (including Uber), Porto Airport is connected to the city centre by Line E of the Porto Metro. The station has three platforms and the trains leave the arrival platform and reverse into one of the departure platforms. You can buy an Andante Tour 1 or Andante Tour 3 ticket to travel on the Porto public transport network. It is valid for 24 or 72 consecutive hours, respetctively after first validation has taken place and it costs €7 or €15. Further information on travelling around Porto can be found on introducingporto.com.
